Many talented Indian athletes face significant financial and non-financial challenges, hindering their athletic aspirations. Despite their immense potential, they often lack the necessary resources to train, compete, and represent India on the global stage.
Saanjha aims to bridge this gap by providing a centralized platform for athletes to raise funds and connect with supporters. By fostering a supportive community and streamlining the fundraising process, Saanjha empowers athletes to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
WHO ARE WE DESIGNING FOR?
Saanjha's primary target audience comprises aspiring Indian athletes who require financial and non-financial support to pursue their sporting dreams. These athletes often face significant hurdles, including a lack of resources and opportunities.
On the other hand, Saanjha also targets potential supporters, such as individuals, organizations, and corporations, who are passionate about Indian sports. These supporters can contribute to the platform by donating funds, providing mentorship/ sports facilities and equipements, or offering brand collaborations.
By connecting these two groups, Saanjha aims to create a thriving community that empowers athletes and fosters the growth of Indian sports.
OTHERS IN THIS SPACE
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape, we analyzed several relevant platforms, including GoFundMe and Kickstarter.
GoFundMe: Their card-style UI for showcasing individual causes and progress was particularly inspiring. This approach could be adapted to highlight the unique stories of athletes on Saanjha.
Kickstarter: I identified their streamlined project creation workflow as a potential model for Saanjha's sign-up process, as it aligns with the client's preference for a quick and easy user experience.
Gap in the Indian Market: Despite the presence of numerous online crowdfunding platforms in India, a dedicated platform specifically designed to support aspiring Indian athletes remains a significant gap in the market.
DESIGN PROCESS
I began by crafting a detailed user story to visualize how users would interact with the platform. This served as a foundation for developing low-fidelity wireframes, which allowed me to prioritize key features and mindfully design UI elements like the cause cards, athlete profile, and contribution card.
USER-CENTRIC DESIGN
During the high-fidelity design process, I prioritized a clean and minimal design to highlight athlete profiles and encourage user engagement. I ensured readability by using high-contrast text and UI elements. The goal was to create a visually appealing and intuitive platform that would inspire users to support aspiring athletes.
CHALLENGES & LEARNINGS
Relevant Onboarding: I found that users are more likely to complete sign-up forms when the required information is directly relevant to their goals. This insight guided us in designing a streamlined onboarding process that minimized cognitive load while capturing valuable user data.
The Power of Storytelling: Effective storytelling is crucial for engaging users and driving conversions. We iterated on the landing page content to create a compelling narrative that would immediately capture user attention and motivate them to sign up.
